The happiest of Holidays to ya Possum's! I'm just cozied up here by the tree and Christmasin all the way! At present it's 14 degrees this mornin! Country music froze and stuck to the wall last night! My frozen Sock Monkey butt! Now where's the Christmas snow? At least that if we're gonna have these freezin temps. Another tender TN. Christmas as the song goes. Dashin through the dirt again. Mud pie snowmen out on the lawn. The pink flamingos turned inside out last night because of the coldness. Not pretty.....All our Christmas shoppin done and under the tree. Packages all wrapped up pretty. The beautiful Christmas music fills the air as the radio plays on. Bubba
Well...It's Monday mornin Possum's and I kinda got some stuff on my mind bout this whole Christmas deal. Ya'll know what I'm talkin bout. Here we come a wassialin among the leaves so green. What the sock is a figgy puddin! why would I want them ta bring me one when I don't even know what it means or is? Ya'll's Bubba went online and did a little research last night. The holly and the Ivy and all. And what about mistletoe? Why would I want ta kiss my beloved under something that is a growth on something else? Really? A parasite if ya will. I'm just sayin Possum's,that's its time to question some of these so called traditions and what they really meant back in the day they all got started. For instance...the yule log for example. A yule log can only be obtained from your own land or given as a gift. The yule log itself is saved all year in the house and only burned at Christmas. It represented fertility and God's light into the world. Bet ya'll didn't know that did ya? I got a little more interested in some of these traditions and called upon a friend out in Texas to help me discover more of these old time traditions to look up. Did Ya'll know,in it's earliest forms,Gingerbread can be traced to the ancient Greeks and Egyptians. They used it for ceremonial purposes. Ginger was widely experimented with and Gingerbread is one of the results. Only rich folks had it.
This Possum's, is a picture of a Figgy Puddin! Come ta find out it's really more along the cake lines than it is a puddin. Fruit cakish soaked in brandy and then lit a blaze! There was flamin that day. And on Christmas! My word!
Here we come a wassailin among the leaves so green. Now Wassail was served at modern holiday feast with a medieval theme most closely resembles mulled cider, historical wassail drinks were completely different, more likely to be mulled beer or mead. Sugar, ale, ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon would be placed in a bowl, heated and topped with slices of toast as sops. The history of kissin under the mistletoe means goin back to Scandinavia--to custom and the Norse myths:It was also the plant of peace in Scandinavian antiquity. If enemies met by chance beneath it in the forest , they laid down the arms and maintained a truce until the next day. This ancient Scandinavian custom led to the tradition of kissin under the mistletoe.
The holly and the Ivy Possum's! Holly,Ivy and other greenery such as mistletoe were originally used in Pre-Christian times to help celebrate the Winter Solstice festival and ward off evil spirits and celebrate new gorwth.Just some stuff ta make ya'll think about where all this stuff came from. Hope your pre-Christmas Monday is a happy one! Bubba
Let the Christmas memories surround us this wonderfully blessed Sunday evenin. I sit here with our stuffed Santa and olden plastic Santas of the vintage past. These are all things from our families Christmas past. These items have been in Mike's family all his 50 year old life. Fun ta bring them out this time of year and remember the great times. As for the weather,it's still cold out and we've got rain comin sometime this evenin and into the mornin hours. Now if Santa would bring some Christmas snow! That would be awesome this Christmas eve up and comin. Christmas day only bein 19 days into our very near future. The blessins and miracles are all set for Christmas eve.

As I stated in an earlier blog.....The stockins are hung by the chimney with care. No fireplace, but a plug in heater serves the purpose just fine. And so they are hung at least anyway. What Christmas would be complete without a Christmas Sock Monkey? I see someone is gettin a Sock Monkey in their stockin! Wonder whom the lucky elf is? Old fashion hand blown glass ornament Christmas for us. Shiney Brite all the way Possum's. We even still have an ornament Mike made when he was in 3rd grade 200 years ago. It still hangs on our tree and will always be there. The memories are to precious! The scented candles all a light and smellin Christmasy in The Sock Drawer this cold, cold night. Warmth and coziness with a dash of Christmas spirit. Love over flowin! Mike, myself , Joey and Scooby are the perfect family. A good snuggle on the sofa together to keep us all warm. Christmas hugs abundant, let the good times roll! Did I forget the Giraffe? I think I have finally decided his name is spot. Maybe not so much. That one might be considered a bit on the corny side. So I'm still lookin for the perfect name. Got any ideas? What does one name a Giraffe? The answer to these and other perplexin questions are blowin in the wind I s'pose.
Great day in the frozen mornin Possum's! Mike gave me my Christmas sweater early! It was and absolute perfect moment for such an occasion. The temp as we speak is only 31! Saturday they are callin for snow in the grass with temps in the 20's! Sorry Mr. C! Had ta open this present early! Now that my sockness is all warm and cozy,we can get down to the blogness at hand. And let me start by sayin that Photo Bucket has finally gotten the paste and copy of the HTML codes back and I can start addin more pictures to my blogs now. It's about time and thank ya'll very much for such a simple thing that didn't need fixin in the first place! Leave it alone! Souped up isn't always best! Take the braineyact out of the office and send him on a long, long, long vacation! Nough already! I totally will get up on my soap box on the subject! I could have spit nails when they messed with it! But anyway.....I can at least bitch about it.
So I've been keepin my eye on the present situation! Lot's happenin under our tree! I can't really complain. I mean I did get to open one early. And let me say I am stylin in my newest fashion. As colorful as it is. Not another one like it in the world. Made just for me. Don't think ya'll can run down ta Walmart and get yourselves one so's ya'll can look like Bubba. I am one of a kind and very vintage. My fashions are designed and created for my celeb status. Got ta look spiffy! Mike's camera is always flashin! The staff here in my Sock Drawer do a wonderful job keepin me together and lookin nice for ya'll ta feast ya'll's eyes on. It's all Jimmy Dean in a sauage kind of thing. I provide the casin and they fill it. So get out your bacon and fry it up! Don't make me go all iron skillet on your ass.Lot's of Christmas plans flyin round our house. I'll not get into to it just now so's ya'll can be excited as the events unfold. Bubba has got many appearances ta make. Christmas is a wonderful celebration of our dear Lords birth. That's all that matters this holiday season. For many of us Santa is poor this year. But much like Dr. Suess,it won't stop Christmas from comin. Christmas doesn't come from a store. Maybe, just maybe Christmas is so very much more! Let's all keep that in mind as we holiday ourselves into the season. Forgive everybody and love all God's children. Happy Holidays Possum's. Bubba
