The elves are runnin a muck and partyin till they all drop. Ever wonder how many rolls of wrappin paper were used this holiday season? Me either, but it was funny ta think about. There are kids out there that got the bestest present ever when they opened a Sock Monkey!

Photobucket

A pocket full of daisies To all the lonely people in the world. Hang in there cause something wonderful is comin!

Photobucket

Looks like I'll have to eat all these candy canes! Anyone ta join me? I just wonder how in the world did they get these stripes on them. Did some elf paint them on in the middle of the night after to many Cappicino's? Dude! Your workin overtime! Chill out!

God bless us everyone

Photobucket

Christmas today comes from the sweet historical city Of Franklin TN.! I'm out on a rather cloudy overcast day! The temps did come up into the 50's so's it was a nice afternoon. A Dickins Christmas right smack dab in the middle of the historical square. Folks came from all over ta see such a wonder and delightful costumed Scrooge and cast. Yes....I know your next question. I did in deed get their photos and ya'll will see'em as we get into this blog just a bit more. Just be Patient Possum's and let ole Bubba tell the story. My celeb status rang true from some of the townsfolk as they loved the Sock Monkey Thang and all. I did in fact get around and talked to many pleasin Humans runnin around the place. But as I said in an earlier statement, please bare with me.

Photobucket

Ya'll know Tiny Tim hoppin along on his crutch,God blessin everyone he met. Ma and Pa Cratchit were all to pleased to photograph themselves along side of me. I really wanted ta ask them if the Christmas puddin was whistlein in the copper. But I remained very polite at our wonderous meetin. It was of the utmost importance that I was destined ta meet them in my sock time! I also wanted ta tell Tiny Tim to run down to the corner and buy the biggest turkey hangin up.

Photobucket

The horse drawn cart would drive ya'll around the square for $2.00. I chose ta walk cause I didn't want ta miss a single thing. The Christmas spirit filled the air as carolers sing on one street corner and the next was the river dance. Girls jumpin around with their arms stiffly by their sides. Curly wigs bouncin to the high heavens and I don't know what all! Two young men up the street just a ways, playin their trombones all dressed in period clothin. The top hats were a tippin and wishin a Happy Christmas to whom ever they passed.

Photobucket

I met this young lady in one of the booths. She and I struck up a conversation while we were photographin together. She Stated she was from North Carolina and was here Christmasin with our Scrooged cast. I didn't catch her name, but wish her a merry Christmas and all the blessins for her and her family. It was a joy speakin To her.

Photobucket

I got plum tuckered out and had ta sit a spell. This little metal car a settin out on the sidewalk. I guess they knew I was comin and wanted ta make sure I had a proper place ta sit down. Bless their little Scrooged hearts! And a very Merry Christmas to ya'll as well. The metal seat was a bit cold ta sit upon, but it's the thought that counts!

Photobucket

The decorations were a sight to behold! If ya'll left this affair without Christmas spirit.....well......ya just didn't need it ta start with. And if I may.....a ba-humbug! I'm just sayin!

Photobucket

Look at this decorated store front! Thought it was a thing of the past didn't ya'll? Not true this Christmas. Jolly old St. Nick and the lot. Ya'll know the Twas the night stories and all.

Photobucket

LOOOK OUT!! IT'S SCROOGE! He threatened ta keep my Sockass! Be afraid! Be very afraid! I would have ended up locked away in one of his money vaults or somethin! Ya'll know how valuable we Sock Monkeys are! Good Gosh golly! Lands sakes! Runnin throught the street with me in hand! Don't make me go all Christmas ghost on ya asss!!!(insert puff of smoke here!) *Wink*

Photobucket

Save the Franklin Cinema! That's waht the sign read. I got it from a reliable source that the historical society has raised the monkey..I mean the money, yeah the money to restore this wonderful treasure.

Photobucket

The carol of the bells concert. They were so pretty! Playin out on the street corner.

Photobucket

These two were only smilin while the camera was out! I know they was thinkin "brutalize Bubba"! Not happenin guys! Merry Christmas just the same....

Photobucket

This brings us to the real reason for the season. Happy Birthday Jesus! Bubba

Happy Holidays

Photobucket

The happiest of Holidays to ya Possum's! I'm just cozied up here by the tree and Christmasin all the way! At present it's 14 degrees this mornin! Country music froze and stuck to the wall last night! My frozen Sock Monkey butt! Now where's the Christmas snow? At least that if we're gonna have these freezin temps. Another tender TN. Christmas as the song goes. Dashin through the dirt again. Mud pie snowmen out on the lawn. The pink flamingos turned inside out last night because of the coldness. Not pretty.....

All our Christmas shoppin done and under the tree. Packages all wrapped up pretty. The beautiful Christmas music fills the air as the radio plays on. Bubba

Snowman in the front yard

Photobucket

Good evenin Possum's! After my last blog of this mornin,I got to thinkin bout other Christmas stuff and was wonderin bout it over a bowl of Snowman soup, while suckin on some ribbon candy.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I have been thinkin bout Snowmen in the front yard! How very much more Christmasy can ya'll get? Now ya'll know I can't build a Snowman till february. Some how a Snowman on valentines day just doesn't hit the spot at t'all!

Photobucket

I started lookin around on the world wide web for these sculptures of Christmas beauty. Winter time yard art!

Photobucket
Photobucket

Some turn up really dressed up! Always got the smile on their icy snow faces.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Twas a great day to sit around and dream of Christmas and it's makins of the histories and all. The snowmen are the funest I think. The high today in Nashville was 45 degress. Any snowman in this type of weather does in fact turn into snowman soup.

Happy Holidays Possum's! Bubba

A Figgy puddin?

Photobucket

Well...It's Monday mornin Possum's and I kinda got some stuff on my mind bout this whole Christmas deal. Ya'll know what I'm talkin bout. Here we come a wassialin among the leaves so green. What the sock is a figgy puddin! why would I want them ta bring me one when I don't even know what it means or is? Ya'll's Bubba went online and did a little research last night. The holly and the Ivy and all. And what about mistletoe? Why would I want ta kiss my beloved under something that is a growth on something else? Really? A parasite if ya will. I'm just sayin Possum's,that's its time to question some of these so called traditions and what they really meant back in the day they all got started. For instance...the yule log for example. A yule log can only be obtained from your own land or given as a gift. The yule log itself is saved all year in the house and only burned at Christmas. It represented fertility and God's light into the world. Bet ya'll didn't know that did ya?

I got a little more interested in some of these traditions and called upon a friend out in Texas to help me discover more of these old time traditions to look up. Did Ya'll know,in it's earliest forms,Gingerbread can be traced to the ancient Greeks and Egyptians. They used it for ceremonial purposes. Ginger was widely experimented with and Gingerbread is one of the results. Only rich folks had it.

Photobucket

This Possum's, is a picture of a Figgy Puddin! Come ta find out it's really more along the cake lines than it is a puddin. Fruit cakish soaked in brandy and then lit a blaze! There was flamin that day. And on Christmas! My word!

Photobucket

Here we come a wassailin among the leaves so green. Now Wassail was served at modern holiday feast with a medieval theme most closely resembles mulled cider, historical wassail drinks were completely different, more likely to be mulled beer or mead. Sugar, ale, ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon would be placed in a bowl, heated and topped with slices of toast as sops.

The history of kissin under the mistletoe means goin back to Scandinavia--to custom and the Norse myths:It was also the plant of peace in Scandinavian antiquity. If enemies met by chance beneath it in the forest , they laid down the arms and maintained a truce until the next day. This ancient Scandinavian custom led to the tradition of kissin under the mistletoe.

Photobucket

The holly and the Ivy Possum's! Holly,Ivy and other greenery such as mistletoe were originally used in Pre-Christian times to help celebrate the Winter Solstice festival and ward off evil spirits and celebrate new gorwth.

Just some stuff ta make ya'll think about where all this stuff came from. Hope your pre-Christmas Monday is a happy one! Bubba

Christmas memories

Photobucket
Let the Christmas memories surround us this wonderfully blessed Sunday evenin. I sit here with our stuffed Santa and olden plastic Santas of the vintage past. These are all things from our families Christmas past. These items have been in Mike's family all his 50 year old life. Fun ta bring them out this time of year and remember the great times.

As for the weather,it's still cold out and we've got rain comin sometime this evenin and into the mornin hours. Now if Santa would bring some Christmas snow! That would be awesome this Christmas eve up and comin. Christmas day only bein 19 days into our very near future. The blessins and miracles are all set for Christmas eve.

Photobucket

As I stated in an earlier blog.....The stockins are hung by the chimney with care. No fireplace, but a plug in heater serves the purpose just fine. And so they are hung at least anyway. What Christmas would be complete without a Christmas Sock Monkey? I see someone is gettin a Sock Monkey in their stockin! Wonder whom the lucky elf is? Old fashion hand blown glass ornament Christmas for us. Shiney Brite all the way Possum's. We even still have an ornament Mike made when he was in 3rd grade 200 years ago. It still hangs on our tree and will always be there. The memories are to precious! The scented candles all a light and smellin Christmasy in The Sock Drawer this cold, cold night. Warmth and coziness with a dash of Christmas spirit. Love over flowin! Mike, myself , Joey and Scooby are the perfect family. A good snuggle on the sofa together to keep us all warm. Christmas hugs abundant, let the good times roll! Did I forget the Giraffe? I think I have finally decided his name is spot. Maybe not so much. That one might be considered a bit on the corny side. So I'm still lookin for the perfect name. Got any ideas? What does one name a Giraffe? The answer to these and other perplexin questions are blowin in the wind I s'pose.

The Gingerbread house

Photobucket

It's a 20 degree mornin here in Nashville Possum's! Cold enough ta make ya slap your Mama and walk around in combat boots. And while I'm at it,I'll just run with the scissors, sniff the glue and stick my tongue to a metal pole in sub zero temps! It really was a triple dog dare after all! F*U*D*G*E........Only I didn't say fudge. The Queen mother of swear words! The F_ _ _ word. And if your not careful, you'll shoot your eye out! OH NO! I shot my eye out! Or Button or something. But anyway its' all bout the tinker toys!

So how doo Possum's! Welcome once again to the bloggins of Bubba's Sock Drawer and a Merry Christmas! I can certainly see the season commences and a joyous feelin is a comin over my sock self. I guess the Christmas spirit has finally arrived! Walkin around hummin Christmas carols. The lights on the tree are certanly pretty as we sit in the dark each and every evenin. Mood lightin for the season. Now...as most of ya'll know,Mike is a cake decorator as a profession for many years. Yep! And as ya'll guessed it,He did creat a Gingerbread house for display.

Photobucket

Isn't it the prettiest thing ya'll have ever seen? So holiday-ish! Don't know why anyone would ever eat gingerbread. Plum nasty if ya'll ask me. But it does make a pretty display for the holiday festivities.

Photobucket

Here's to a frosty Sunday mornin as the Christmas music fills the air over the radio waves. Merry Christmas from your ole pal Bubba!

31 Degrees

Photobucket

Great day in the frozen mornin Possum's! Mike gave me my Christmas sweater early! It was and absolute perfect moment for such an occasion. The temp as we speak is only 31! Saturday they are callin for snow in the grass with temps in the 20's! Sorry Mr. C! Had ta open this present early! Now that my sockness is all warm and cozy,we can get down to the blogness at hand. And let me start by sayin that Photo Bucket has finally gotten the paste and copy of the HTML codes back and I can start addin more pictures to my blogs now. It's about time and thank ya'll very much for such a simple thing that didn't need fixin in the first place! Leave it alone! Souped up isn't always best! Take the braineyact out of the office and send him on a long, long, long vacation! Nough already! I totally will get up on my soap box on the subject! I could have spit nails when they messed with it! But anyway.....I can at least bitch about it.

Photobucket

So I've been keepin my eye on the present situation! Lot's happenin under our tree! I can't really complain. I mean I did get to open one early. And let me say I am stylin in my newest fashion. As colorful as it is. Not another one like it in the world. Made just for me. Don't think ya'll can run down ta Walmart and get yourselves one so's ya'll can look like Bubba. I am one of a kind and very vintage. My fashions are designed and created for my celeb status. Got ta look spiffy! Mike's camera is always flashin! The staff here in my Sock Drawer do a wonderful job keepin me together and lookin nice for ya'll ta feast ya'll's eyes on. It's all Jimmy Dean in a sauage kind of thing. I provide the casin and they fill it. So get out your bacon and fry it up! Don't make me go all iron skillet on your ass.

Lot's of Christmas plans flyin round our house. I'll not get into to it just now so's ya'll can be excited as the events unfold. Bubba has got many appearances ta make. Christmas is a wonderful celebration of our dear Lords birth. That's all that matters this holiday season. For many of us Santa is poor this year. But much like Dr. Suess,it won't stop Christmas from comin. Christmas doesn't come from a store. Maybe, just maybe Christmas is so very much more! Let's all keep that in mind as we holiday ourselves into the season. Forgive everybody and love all God's children. Happy Holidays Possum's. Bubba

Rainy Mondays don't get me down

Photobucket

Well.....Good Mornin Possum's! Didn't I tell ya I was gonna sit in the coffee pot like a hot tub? Set that thang into perkulate And all your troubles vanish! All is right with the world! I must start by sayin that the high today is only gonna be about 48 degrees. Down ta freezin tonight! Bbbbbbrrrrrrrr cold Possum's! Rain out here in Nashville. I'll sit by the tree all day and watch the lights twinkle. An ocassional glance down at the big present in the corner with my name on it. I'm just sayin! (chewin gum smack!*!!) I could just go stand naked in the refrigerator and run back and get into my coffee pot to warm up.....Or......I could cut stars out of construction paper....Don't even ask bout glitter and a Sock Monkey.....not pretty. Mike gets tttttt-ed off! **Wink***

Photobucket

Don't-cha just love all the Christmas music on the radio? Ole Bubba's been feelin pretty jolly. Don't make me dip my candy cane in your coffee and stir! Looks like tonight will be spent with a good Christmas movie and a cup of hot chocolate. We get to Christmas all month! And Christmas we will! I want to lay down on the floor and roll myself up in wrappin paper! Can I help it if I like Christmas?

Photobucket

I guess I had better get out of the coffee pot now. Ya'll have a great day and thank ya for stoppin bye. Bubba
