The Cheatham county Fair

Photobucket

Good mornin Possum's! As ya'll probably guessed....Ole Bubba has been out and about again! Are ya'll scared? Well... you should be. Not really but it was fun to say to say the very least. Once again it was one of those lazy afternoons, sittin on the porch havin coffee and wonderin what's for supper. We all like The New South Grill so well... we decided to head back out to Ashland city for another fine dinin experience. This time I got a picture of their sign. The usual happened as we dined, talked and sipped ice tea. It wasn't until dessert and coffee portion of our meal that we all decided to head out to the Cheatham County fair. We had passed the sign on the way in to the Grill. Since Nashville has done away with their fair as of last year....It was the perfect way to spend an evenin and walk off the calories of the butterfinger cake we had just packed onto our hips and thighs. Not complainin mind you , but guilt never fails us. So sit back and light yourselves up a cigarette and I'll fill you in on the story.

Photobucket

We had gotten the directions from the locals that work at the Grill as to where we would find this fair. They were all to eager to help us with our mappin of the road ahead. So into the darkness as night had closed in all around us. I got excited as a Sock Monkey could be as we started seein the fair lights.

Photobucket

Oh yeah! The fair! Some go for the cotton candy, rides and corn dogs but the lights of those rides always gets me goin! The color of the lights makes my eyes roll back in my head and druel run down the sides of my mouth.

Photobucket

FUNNEL CAKE!!!!! Possum's! Can we talk here? I grab my hips and thighs as I walk past this booth. The butterfinger cake we had partook in earlier in the evenin...had me pushin the fat back so as no one could see it. I was able to walk past without lookin back on that note. The smell of them cookin was enough to sustain us. I simple won't think of the drippin chocolate, lovinly poured over the top and the powdered sugar sprinkled on top! By this time I was grittin my teeth at the very thought! Keep walkin little brown Sock Monkey!!!!

Photobucket

Just think of the lights and all the stress of not havin funnel cake will fade into the background of the fair.

Photobucket

This got us to the ferriswheel ride and we thought to ourselves...We could ride above the smell of the funnel cakes. Yeah! That's it! Of course when we were stopped way up high so the folks under us could get off the ride...The funnel cake smell rose up to us and we almost fell off! Is this a sugar addiction or what? My head went fuzzy as the dizziness and fadin to black started! Got to keep my wits about me and hold on! We are way up in the air!

Photobucket

The ferriswheel now behind me...I started just walkin around takin in more lights and smells of the fair envelope my head.

Photobucket

I found some local monkee buddies just hangin out. Keep it cool monkees! Join me Possum's as we continue on with our story of the fair!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Now this ia a small town and not as big as most state fairs. Never the less we did enjoy ourselves in the charm of it all.

Photobucket

Don't be an ass Possum's! LOL! Pun intended! Just a little Sock Drawer humor. Not meant to offend anyone by any means.

Photobucket

Ya'll know I love the exibits of the fairs I go to. And sittin on the shelf were two antique Sock Monkeys....dressed to the nines/ with a big old first place blue ribbon shashed across them! I all but peed myself! Yes! The charm of the Sock Monkey lives on! Need I say more?

Photobucket

LIGHTS!

Photobucket

RIDES! The fun of it all!!!

Photobucket

To finish the evenin off...is always the Carosel!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Savannah Jane bein goofy! I was on the horse in front of her.

It's time to close The Sock Drawer on another adventure! Bubba

Ashland City

Photobucket

Well howdy Possum's and general sock lovers! Got another adventure to report on. It all started one fine afternoon sittin on the porch havin coffee with a couple of friends. We were sittnin there talkin and thinkin it would be a nice afternoon to drive from Nashville to Ashland city in search of a small town restaraunt with to die for dinin. On the way We found this in the middle of no where Shell gas station. Had a few cool things to show ya'll! I was sittin there waitin on Andy and Barney...maybe Aunt Bea a possible Goober and little opey! Cool old police car from the 50's I think! It just screamed The Andy Griffin show!

Photobucket

Photobucket

The Shell station was workin it with the old trackers out on the front lawn. This was a fun little stop on the way to Ashland city. Asland city bein only a 20 minute drive from Nashville, it was a pleasent drive through the country and farmland. Beautiful state we have here! A far cry from my celeb status on the red carpet...You understand Possum's.

Photobucket

Did ya'll ever see a Shell station with a big old front porch with an antique gas pump a sittin on it!? Sometimes ya find the darnest things out in the middle of nowhere! It made the drive very enjoyible and a cute find!

Well as the story goes...We finally made it into Ashland City and just drove around a bit looking for the perfect "What's for supper? Place". We all took a vote and decided the New South grill! Neon sign out front statin the fact It was the New South Grill. It kinda caught our button eyes and we wondered inside for a bite to eat. The grill was nicely decorated with old black and white photos of the early days of Ashland City in it's historic way. The four of us ordered our meal and continued on with our frienly jokes and iced tea sippin and just havin a pleasent time and evenin. We didn't realize our food hadn't arrived for quite sometime. It wasn't long before our waitress came around and told us our food would be out shortly. She came around serveral times to tell us it would only be a short while longer. A few minutes later...the manager came over to our table and told us our ticket had fallen down behind the chefs table. These folks put the customer service back into customer service! I know Possum's, Most of us thought customer service was a thing of the past! Not in this case! The manager brought us another apetizer (we already had a plate of fried cheese apetizer) The second one was fresh fried mushrooms (chef prepared). Our food came and we had the most wonderful dinner one could mention! I'm here to say these chefs put the word food in food network! Our waitress was one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. Just so friendly! After our meal we contimplated about havin dessert. Butterfinger cake made from scratch! I teased the waitress and told her the manager said it was on the house. Little did we know she o.k.-ed it with the manger and we were suckin down butterfinger cake with a side of freshly brewed coffee! Butterfingers crumpled up on top! And as a reward for the bestest customer service ever!...We award them with their picture displayed proudly in The Sock Drawer. The gentleman on the left is the Manager of the New South Grill and the little lady next to him was our waitress!

The Travelers Rest

Photobucket

Hello Possum's and welcome to another Adventure in my Sock Drawer! And as usual it was breakfast out at Cracker Barrel. What did I find in the parkin lot of Cracker Barrel? An iron horse of course!Ya'll know my photographer all to well...Up on the back of this horse I went for the perfect Bubba's Sock Drawer photo of the day! Just how many Sock Monkeys can say they've been on the back of an iron horse before breakfast? And how many people can say they've danced with their Sock Monkey in the moonlight? Only here in Bubba's Sock Drawer will you find the silliest things on the planet! Life is simply to short to be a stuffed shirt in a tie goin off to the office everyday! So go ahead and dance with your Sock Monkey in the moonlight and kiss a pumpkin at dawn while your at it! But the real reason for a blog today is, I visited the Travelers Rest Plantation house this mornin...after breakfast of course.

Photobucket

A history lesson on a full stomach.(stomach rumble) Pardon me Possum's! My sunny side up eggs just fell on top of my gravy and biscuit! Turkey sausage floatin by in the coffee I drank at breakfast! Please for give me and now back to the plantation! In the picture above you see me standin if front of the plantation house itself. Owned by John overton and his lovely wife, Mrs. Overton. Mr. Overton was 54 years old when he married the 37 year old Mrs. Overton. Kind of gross...the age difference...but keep in mind my stomach is oh so very full.

Photobucket

We weren't suppose to be taken pictures on the inside, but ya'll know how Bubba is! I've got to show ya'll the happens and goin ons of my travels.

Photobucket

opps! Another slip of the finger! Hee hee hee Sssssshhhh! Don't tell anyone.

Photobucket

What's wrong with my fingers today? I accidently did it again! Do enjoy the inside of the platation house itself.

Photobucket

Might I be so bold to say that George Washington himself made a trip to this house back in the day! One never knows who's DNA your walkin on!

Photobucket

This is another angle of the plantation house. It's got the biggest porch! Where's the coffee and rockin chairs? I'm ready as a Sock monkey ever could be!

Photobucket

This was our host and MC for the walkin through tour and history lesson. Dressed in period clothin and boots! Wool in the summertime? There was a battle on the grounds called the battle of Nashville. There were so many dead bodies, you couldn't touch the ground accordin to our tour guide. Confederate blood watered grass. Great location for America's most haunted places.

Photobucket

Mrs. Overton was an herbalist, but it isn't known where her herb garden was really located on the plantation grounds.

Photobucket

This loom was housed out in the weavin house out back. Sorry for the darkness of the photo, but once again I had to sneek it. Hope all is well Possum's and peeps We all took a vote and decided it was time to close The Sock Drawer for another day. Bubba out!

A Saturday off never stops

Photobucket

So my Possum's! Ya'll can never get enough of this!!! ya think it's funny I became a chew toy? I don't come with ranch sauce. I told ya'll I had more to blog about from our Saturday excursion. I guess you can tell we were in dinosaur world for about two hours.

Photobucket

Tucked away on top of a mountain was GUNTOWN!!!!! The only way up is by sky lift!

Photobucket

The lift takes us all the way to the top Possum's! Peep's! Can we talk? My Dad is afraid of high places, but he managed to make it with his eyes closed!

Photobucket

At the bottum of the mountain was the haunted Hotel. Looked kind of cheesy, so we passed on it. Anyway back to the top of the mountain!

Photobucket

Guntown USA Possum's! A fantasy western town with a beautiful view! The buildins we were really able to go into.

Photobucket

I pooped into the US Marshalls office to take a look around. Thinkin it was just for show.

Photobucket

But then the Marshall showed up and it wasn't so funny anymore! Let's see here....Jail to my left and the Marshall on my right! This can't be good! The Guntwon actor was all to kind to take this photo for my Sock Drawer happenins. He was actually excited and has been followin my blog for about 5 years now!

Photobucket

Giddy-up Possum's! Hook me up with some horse power! If this wagon starts rollin...I'm gonna jump cause the only way down is down the side of a mountain!

Photobucket

Ya'll can't see this one very well but it was a maniquin woman in a old time kitchen doin her 1800's thang.

Photobucket

I captured the sock monkey gang hangin around and waitin to rob the town bank. No one was in the bank that day so it would have been easy for them to pull it off.

Photobucket

It wasn't long until they staged a gun fight out in the center of town.

Photobucket

Two dead and some still walkin!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Good show guys! The actors were pretty good at the gun fight thing.

Photobucket

Once the actors discovered there was a celeb watchin...they were on it! With two guns pointed at my head I didn't dare move around much. Please feel free to notice the two dead men standin in this picture. Give new meanin to dead men walkin!

Photobucket

Over at the local saloon there was a can can dance stage show.

Photobucket

Photobucket

All in all I give them five stars for an enjoyible afternoon. Shake it for ole Bubba ladies!

Photobucket

just a little walk about there were fun sights and loads of photo opps!

Photobucket

Notice the pretend graveyard for the pretend dead men still walkin!

Photobucket

Me sittin around western style. not sure what this thing really is but it certainly has the old western look! (wink and smile at camera)

Photobucket

What western town would be complete without an old wagon wheel layin around? (scratch head and looked concerned.)

Photobucket

This photo is brought to you from the other end of the town.

Photobucket

And there ya have it Possum's! Guntown! If your ever in Bowlin Green Kentucky, stop in and see it! Time to close the Sock drawer! Bubba
